We are Andy and Lyn Beardsley!

Our story is quite unusual. We first meet in May 2000 at the inaugural meeting of the crew volunteers for the 2004 Global Challenge. In the ensuing 4 years our friendship developed. As with all friendships, not without it's ups and downs. However, the consequence of this has been that we married in August 2004, though we did not take part in the Global Challenge, we have accepted the challenge of marriage! We now live in Essex near to an estuary, where we happily listen to the halyards on the boats. We hope to be able to indulge in some sailing in the warm summer months. This page will give you a very brief biography of each of us.

Born in Nottingham, Andy spent his early life in Nyasaland (now Malawi) in Africa. Returning to England, he went to Oakham School in Rutland, and finished his schooling at Bemrose School in Derby. After gaining a degree at North East London Polytechnic, now the University of East London, in Stratford, he then worked in the Pharmaceutical Industry in production for 26 years. Firstly for Upjohn in Crawley. After 8 years there, he spent a brief period with Paynes & Byrne, before joining Wellcome in Dartford, where he stayed for 17 years, by which time the firm had become GSK. He took early retirement, along with redundancy in April 2003.

He enjoys travel, hence the trip around the world in 2003. Amongst his many hobbies, he enjoys Bird Watching, Skiing, going to the theatre and Ballet, and DIY on the house. Oh! and he supports Derby County Football club, a really difficult hobby!

Born in Maldon, Lyn has lived all her life in Essex. The early years were spent living in villages around Braintree, before moving with her parents into Braintree. Latterly she lived in Halstead, and now lives with Andy! Educated at the County High School in Braintree, Lyn went to work for Boots the Chemists where she trained as a dispenser, before moving to work in a local GP's surgery where she later achieved BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences. There she rose to the ranks of Dispensary manager, before testing her talents by taking to the road as a medical sales representative. After 18 months, she decided that it was not for her, and moved back into Pharmacy, but this time in a hospital, and also with a change to career, and taking on IT (Information Technology) (Computers to you and me!) Starting as Deputy IT Manager, she has recently been promoted to Pharmacy IT Manager.

Like Andy, Lyn enjoys travel, and after the trip to Cape Town is anticipating many more trips to exotic places. She also likes the theater and Ballet, and is an avid reader. She can't get enough of the written word! Additionally she has become an Internet addict!
